TB NETBible YUN-IBR Ref. Silang Nama Gambar Himne

Yesaya 19:21

Konteks
19:21 The Lord will reveal himself to the Egyptians, and they 1  will acknowledge the Lord’s authority 2  at that time. 3  They will present sacrifices and offerings; they will make vows to the Lord and fulfill them.

Yesaya 40:26

Konteks

40:26 Look up at the sky! 4

Who created all these heavenly lights? 5

He is the one who leads out their ranks; 6

he calls them all by name.

Because of his absolute power and awesome strength,

not one of them is missing.

Yesaya 44:8

Konteks

44:8 Don’t panic! Don’t be afraid! 7

Did I not tell you beforehand and decree it?

You are my witnesses! Is there any God but me?

There is no other sheltering rock; 8  I know of none.

Yesaya 54:1

Konteks
Zion Will Be Secure

54:1 “Shout for joy, O barren one who has not given birth!

Give a joyful shout and cry out, you who have not been in labor!

For the children of the desolate one are more numerous

than the children of the married woman,” says the Lord.

Yesaya 57:11

Konteks

57:11 Whom are you worried about?

Whom do you fear, that you would act so deceitfully

and not remember me

or think about me? 9

Because I have been silent for so long, 10

you are not afraid of me. 11

Yesaya 58:3

Konteks

58:3 They lament, 12  ‘Why don’t you notice when we fast?

Why don’t you pay attention when we humble ourselves?’

Look, at the same time you fast, you satisfy your selfish desires, 13

you oppress your workers. 14

[19:21]  1 tn Heb “Egypt.” For stylistic reasons, to avoid redundancy, the present translation uses the pronoun (“they”) here.

[19:21]  2 tn Heb “will know the Lord.”

[19:21]  3 tn Heb “in that day” (so KJV), likewise at the beginning of vv. 23 and 24.

[40:26]  4 tn Heb “Lift on high your eyes and see.”

[40:26]  5 tn The words “heavenly lights” are supplied in the translation for clarification. See the following lines.

[40:26]  6 tn Heb “the one who brings out by number their host.” The stars are here likened to a huge army that the Lord leads out. Perhaps the next line pictures God calling roll. If so, the final line may be indicating that none of them dares “go AWOL.” (“AWOL” is a military acronym for “absent without leave.”)

[44:8]  7 tn BDB 923 s.v. רָהָה derives this verb from an otherwise unattested root, while HALOT 403 s.v. יָרָה defines it as “be stupefied” on the basis of an Arabic cognate. The form is likely a corruption of תיראו, the reading attested in the Qumran scroll 1QIsaa.

[44:8]  8 tn Heb “rock” or “rocky cliff,” a title that depicts God as a protective refuge in his role as sovereign king; thus the translation “sheltering rock.”

[57:11]  9 tn Heb “you do not place [it] on your heart.”

[57:11]  10 tn Heb “Is it not [because] I have been silent, and from long ago?”

[57:11]  11 sn God’s patience with sinful Israel has caused them to think that they can sin with impunity and suffer no consequences.

[58:3]  12 tn The words “they lament” are supplied in the translation for clarification.

[58:3]  13 tn Heb “you find pleasure”; NASB “you find your desire.”

[58:3]  14 tn Or perhaps, “debtors.” See HALOT 865 s.v. * עָצֵב.
